How the Counter Pulse works.
A recurring, privacy-minded signal built from short questions answered by verified paint and hardware professionals.
Short questions. Clear limits. Useful direction.
The Counter Pulse is designed to show movement and shared pressure, not manufacture a precise national statistic from a small community.
Ask one focused question
Each pulse covers a single operating subject such as contractor traffic, staffing pressure, equipment service lead time, or substitution activity.
Verify the room
Responses come from approved industry members. Role and operating context may be used to interpret the result, but identities are never published.
Check the sample
Editors review response count, concentration, missing context, and obvious anomalies before deciding whether a result is responsible to publish.
Publish the signal
Every report states the question, collection window, usable response count, relevant limitations, and whether the result is directional or benchmark-ready.
Four signals close to the daily work.
Contractor traffic
Direction and concentration of professional customer activity, with timing context when it matters.
Staffing pressure
Coverage strain, training bottlenecks, and the tasks most affected by thin schedules.
Service lead time
Time to response, time to resolution, parts constraints, and the operational effect of downtime.
Supply friction
Availability, substitutions, delayed jobs, and recurring gaps that change counter decisions.
What keeps a pulse from becoming noise.
No individual responses
Reports summarize groups. They never publish a member’s private answer, store identity, customer information, or contact details.
No tiny-sample theater
If too few usable responses exist, the result stays unpublished or is labeled as an open question instead of being dressed up as a statistic.
No sponsor steering
Sponsors cannot choose the result, inspect private responses, suppress an unfavorable signal, or present paid claims as member findings.
No false precision
Directional community signals are not described as a national market census. The language must match the strength of the sample.
The founding survey is collecting the baseline.
Preview reports show the intended format. Live findings will appear only after enough verified responses exist to publish them responsibly.
